If you’ve been following my Instagram page for some time now, you’ll know I have pondered the idea of adding a rug to our dining space for a while. I love our dining room, but it never felt fully finished to me. Yes we changed our sheet flooring, swapped the good ole “boob” light fixture for a simple chandelier, and painted over the grey walls with a classic white, but it needed something more. One of the main reasons I love our dining room so much is because the amount of natural light it gets is just so beautiful! One window and our back door look out to our property where we get to watch the chickens free ranging and the goats playing around. It really is a much used and loved room in our home.

Immediately I knew the dining room would be my go to space. Now, when choosing a rug for a dining space the overall size of the rug is very important. When you’re seated and the chair is pulled out you want to make sure to still be on the rug. Although our dining space is relatively small, I knew the appropriate sized rug to go under our table needed to be 7’6″x9’6″. You do not want a rug that is anything smaller than this size for a table that seats six. I mean listen, if you have a beautiful rug you are going to want to show it off! No sense in having a table covering up all the pretty details.
If you ever get that itch to refresh a space, but you don’t want to spend a ton of money, buying a new rug is the answer. It is amazing what adding a rug our dinging room did to the overall feel of the room. As soon as I began unfolding the rug (yes, unfolding I’ll explain that later) I fell in love. The hints of bold colors mixed with muted tones with an all over distressed look was exactly what I wanted! This particular rug is very thin and could be more plush feeling if you placed a pad underneath. However, because I was using this for under our dining table the thin feeling is exactly what I was hoping for. I have two boys who LOVE to eat so I need a rug that could be easily maintained and stay mostly clean. That brings me to the best part of this rug- it is machine washable! I’ve had yet to resort to that because it truly is so easy to clean.
Now for the reveal…
You will notice I added some new decor pieces such as art, dishes, and florals, but the real show stopper to this room refresh is the Rust Anahawan Distressed Washable Area Rug.
The pops of color add such warmth to this space. I’ll be honest it was a little out of my comfort zone initially, but I couldn’t be happier with how it looks. The contrasting trim with our darker floors and the colors in the rug all work so well and compliment each other perfectly.
